Raúl Fernández produced a spectacular performance at Silverstone to win the British Grand Prix and claim his second-ever Sunday victory in MotoGP. The Spanish rider delivered a dominant display for Aprilia, bouncing back in style after the Sprint and helping the Italian manufacturer complete a clean sweep of the podium.
Jorge Martín finished second and strengthened his position at the top of the World Championship standings, while Marco Bezzecchi fought through the pain to secure an impressive third place.
The result gives Aprilia its third triple podium of the season and confirms the manufacturer’s growing strength in the 2026 MotoGP campaign.
Fernández takes control from the start
Conditions were ideal at Silverstone, with sunshine, little wind and temperatures reaching 27 degrees Celsius in the air and 45 degrees on the track. All riders opted for the same tyre combination: a hard front and medium rear.
At the start, Martín immediately encountered a problem when his rear ride-height device became stuck. Fernández took advantage and moved into the lead ahead of Bezzecchi.
Marc Márquez made an aggressive start, overtaking Martín and Ai Ogura, but the Spaniard soon struggled to match the pace at the front. Fernández, meanwhile, had no intention of managing his advantage in the early stages.
The Aprilia rider pushed hard from the opening laps and built a lead of more than 1.5 seconds within just two laps. After five laps, his advantage over Bezzecchi had grown to three seconds.
Martín fights back for second
Martín gradually closed the gap to Bezzecchi and began putting pressure on his Aprilia teammate. The championship leader briefly ran wide at the opening part of a corner, losing around half a second, but quickly recovered.
It did not take long for Martín to catch Bezzecchi again. This time he completed the move without difficulty and moved into second place.
The Spaniard then tried to reduce Fernández’s advantage, but the race leader immediately responded. Fernández increased his pace once again and maintained a comfortable gap of more than four seconds.
For Martín, however, second place was a hugely valuable result. With another strong points haul, the reigning championship leader extended his advantage at the top of the standings.
Bezzecchi battles through the pain
Bezzecchi produced one of the most impressive performances of the race. Despite racing with significant physical discomfort, the Aprilia rider refused to surrender the final podium position.
Álex Márquez closed in during the final stages and appeared ready to challenge for third, but Bezzecchi actually improved his lap times towards the end rather than slowing down.
The Italian held firm and crossed the finish line in third, securing a well-deserved podium.
Bezzecchi is now just 31 points behind Martín in the championship, while Ogura sits 37 points adrift after his retirement at Silverstone.
Disaster for Ogura, difficult weekend for Bagnaia
Ai Ogura suffered a major setback in the championship. The Japanese rider, who had been one of the most consistent competitors in recent rounds, crashed between Turns 16 and 17.
Ogura had already lost ground earlier in the race after being overtaken by Pedro Acosta and Álex Márquez. His crash ultimately ended a weekend that had promised much more.
Pecco Bagnaia also endured another difficult Sunday. The Ducati rider arrived at Silverstone after undergoing surgery on his right arm for compartment syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Like Marc Márquez, Bagnaia struggled with the tyres and never found the necessary rhythm. His weekend eventually ended with a crash.
Marc Márquez struggles to seventh
Marc Márquez endured a particularly difficult race. After showing strong pace early on, the Ducati rider gradually lost ground and was unable to stay with the leading group.
Acosta managed to pull away from Márquez, while Fabio Di Giannantonio later caught and passed the eight-time world champion with relative ease.
Márquez continued to experience several moments on the limit throughout the race and ultimately crossed the finish line in seventh.
It was far from the result he had hoped for, but finishing the race at least allowed him to score valuable championship points. Márquez now trails Martín by 40 points, with Di Giannantonio just one point further back.
Aprilia celebrates another landmark victory
Fernández controlled the closing laps with confidence and secured his second Sunday MotoGP victory, following his previous triumph in Australia in 2025.
The Madrid-born rider celebrated the victory wearing a helmet paying tribute to the Spanish national football team.
Behind him, Martín and Bezzecchi completed an all-Aprilia podium, giving the manufacturer another landmark result in what is becoming an increasingly impressive season.
Silverstone therefore belonged to Aprilia. Fernández took a dominant victory, Martín strengthened his championship lead and Bezzecchi produced a remarkable podium despite his physical struggles.
For Márquez and Bagnaia, meanwhile, it was a weekend to forget.
