A cloudy Sunday provided the backdrop for an action-packed Brno Grand Prix, full of twists and turns and marked by two major absences: Alex Marquez, sidelined due to his physical condition following a recent injury, and Marco Bezzecchi, absent after the consequences of the incident during Saturday’s race.
When the lights went out, Ai Ogura surprised everyone with a brilliant start. Francesco Bagnaia, meanwhile, ran slightly wide at the first corner and Marc Marquez immediately took advantage, inserting himself into the battle at the front.
Further back, Fabio Di Giannantonio struggled in the early stages, initially running sixth behind Pedro Acosta and Moreira, while Jorge Martin found himself down in seventh position.
The fight quickly intensified between Ogura and Bagnaia. Pecco moved into second place and Marquez exploited every opportunity to stay attached to the leading duo. After an excellent start, the Japanese rider experienced a difficult phase and was overtaken by both Ducati riders.
From lap three onwards, Martin’s race became increasingly complicated. The Spaniard was called in to serve two long lap penalties and, while trying to recover positions, also received a track limits penalty. After completing the first long lap, he managed to remain inside the top ten, but the second dropped him to thirteenth place behind Enea Bastianini.
At the front, Bagnaia attempted to control the race pace and built a half-second advantage over Marquez. Behind them, Acosta and Di Giannantonio gradually closed in on Ogura, while Fabio Quartararo’s race ended early following a crash.
As the laps went by, Marquez increased his pace and became the fastest rider on track. Lap after lap, he reduced the gap to Bagnaia until he became a real threat.
With eight laps remaining, Ogura also found extra speed, closing back to within one and a half seconds of the leaders, while the chasing pack watched the fight for victory from a distance.
Bagnaia tried to defend with precise and aggressive riding, closing every possible line. However, on lap sixteen, Marquez found the opening, overtook the Italian champion and immediately began building a comfortable gap.
Behind him came Ogura’s masterpiece, pulling off a spectacular and almost impossible overtake on Bagnaia to secure second place.
In the closing laps, Di Giannantonio attempted to reel in a struggling Bagnaia, while Martin limited the damage by climbing back to tenth position, leaving him just nine points behind Bezzecchi in the championship standings.
The final twist came on the last lap when Pedro Acosta was forced to retire due to a suspected engine failure.
At the chequered flag, it was celebration time for Marc Marquez, who delivered a victory built on patience, speed and race management. Behind him, Ogura shone with a remarkable performance, while Bagnaia completed the podium after fighting hard throughout the race before eventually surrendering in the closing stages.
