Marc Marquez will miss the rest of the MotoGP season due to a fractured and ligament-damaged right shoulder sustained during a first-lap collision with Marco Bezzecchi at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Initial checks had ruled out the need for surgery, but Marquez underwent a successful operation in recent weeks, confirmed by MotoGP medical chief Dr. Angel Charte.
“Marc has already had surgery, was discharged after 24 hours, and has begun a period of rest. Returning in Portugal will be very complicated, as this injury can have lasting effects if not treated carefully,” Charte said during the Australian Grand Prix.
A 16-week recovery period, as estimated by Dr. Pedro Luis Ripoll, effectively rules out any return before the season-ending Valencia GP. Marquez has stated he will take a cautious approach to rehabilitation, avoiding unnecessary risks.
For the Australian GP, Ducati test rider Michele Pirro will replace Marquez. It is not yet confirmed who will cover him in Malaysia. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi has received a double long-lap penalty for his role in the Mandalika collision.
With the championship already secured, Marquez aims for a full recovery, closing out a season disrupted by injury but without jeopardizing his future racing prospects.
