Michael Schumacher’s legacy will once again take centre stage at the Italian Grand Prix. Ahead of the Monza race, Ferrari has unveiled special race suits inspired by the seven-time Formula 1 world champion and his historic relationship with the Maranello team.
Hamilton and Leclerc will take to the track wearing a commemorative design that recalls some of the most iconic elements associated with Schumacher during his Ferrari career. Among the most significant details are the seven stars, a clear reference to the German driver’s seven Formula 1 world titles.
The tribute carries an even greater significance because the 2026 Italian Grand Prix marks 30 years since Schumacher claimed his first victory with Ferrari in 1996. That win marked the beginning of a partnership that would go on to define one of the most successful eras in the history of the Scuderia.
Schumacher and Ferrari history
Schumacher won five of his seven world championships with Ferrari, securing five consecutive drivers’ titles between 2000 and 2004.
The German became one of the most important figures in Ferrari’s history and played a crucial role in restoring the team to the top of Formula 1 after several difficult seasons.
Schumacher also enjoyed a special relationship with Monza. He won the Italian Grand Prix five times, becoming one of the most successful drivers ever at the historic Italian circuit.
A tribute that could also extend to the SF-26
The special race suits may not be the only Schumacher tribute during the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Ferrari is also expected to run a special livery on Hamilton and Leclerc’s SF-26 cars, designed to celebrate the German driver’s legacy.
Ferrari has previously used its home race at Monza to celebrate some of the most important figures in the team’s history. In 2025, the Scuderia raced at Monza with a special livery dedicated to Niki Lauda.
This year, the spotlight will instead be on Schumacher, a driver who remains one of the strongest links between Ferrari and its supporters around the world.
For Maranello, Monza will therefore be a weekend where sporting ambitions and memories come together. Hamilton and Leclerc will be tasked with defending Ferrari’s colours in front of the home crowd, while also carrying a tribute to one of the drivers who helped write the most important chapters in the history of the Prancing Horse.
