The Trackhouse Aprilia rider produced an impressive performance to finish second, while Marco Bezzecchi completed the top three, just over a tenth of a second behind Márquez.

The session provided plenty of interesting indications from the opening laps. Álex Márquez spent much of the session at the top of the timesheets before his brother Marc took control. The Ducati rider gradually lowered the benchmark to 1:47.532, a time that none of his rivals could beat before the chequered flag.

Álex Márquez eventually finished fourth on the Gresini Ducati, while Pedro Acosta placed fifth for KTM. The Spanish rider was involved in a late crash at Turn 12, although he escaped without injury.

Jack Miller also enjoyed a strong session, taking sixth place on the Pramac Yamaha. He was followed by the VR46 Ducati pairing of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio. The latter had already crashed at Turn 3 during the early stages of the session.

Fermín Aldeguer claimed ninth on his return from injury, while Fabio Quartararo completed the top ten for Yamaha.

There was a more difficult start for some of the championship contenders. Jorge Martín, the championship leader, could only manage 18th place in FP1, while Francesco Bagnaia was even further down the order in 20th.

Johann Zarco also made his return to MotoGP action, finishing 11th for LCR Honda. The Frenchman was ahead of his teammate Diogo Moreira, while Joan Mir and Luca Marini ended the session 14th and 17th respectively.

The opening session at Aragón therefore belongs to Marc Márquez, who once again demonstrated his strong connection with the MotorLand circuit and immediately put himself forward as one of the favourites for the weekend.

However, with Fernández and Bezzecchi close behind, the battle at the front looks far from settled. The next sessions should provide a clearer picture of the competitive order at Aragón.

Marc Márquez immediately laid down a marker at Aragón.
