The British driver suffered an off-track excursion on the approach to Tertre Rouge and later lost a lap time due to a track-limits infringement, with an additional violation compounding his troubles.

As a result, the No. 83 Ferrari will start 17th among the Hypercars, ahead of only the two Peugeot 9X8 entries. The No. 93 Peugeot secured 16th place, while the No. 94 car will line up at the rear of the class.

Ferrari’s factory entries also faced a tense qualifying session but managed to scrape through. The two works-run 499Ps finished 14th and 15th respectively, securing the final places in Hyperpole 1.

At the front, Ferdinand Habsburg delivered a standout performance to put the No. 35 Alpine A424 at the top of the timesheets with a lap of 3m23.135s. The Austrian edged Louis Delétraz’s No. 12 Hertz Team JOTA Cadillac V-Series.R by just 0.013 seconds in one of the closest qualifying battles of the season.

Cadillac demonstrated impressive pace throughout the session, placing three cars inside the top five. Jordan Taylor secured third position for Wayne Taylor Racing, while Sébastien Bourdais rounded out a strong showing for the American manufacturer. BMW also featured prominently, with René Rast taking fourth in the Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8.

Meanwhile, both Genesis entries successfully progressed to Hyperpole 1, with Dani Juncadella and Pipo Derani qualifying 11th and 13th respectively in an encouraging performance for the brand’s Le Mans debut.

Doriane Pin Dominates LMP2 Qualifying

In LMP2, where regulations required the lowest-graded driver to take part in qualifying, Doriane Pin delivered a commanding performance aboard the No. 30 Duqueine Team Oreca 07 Gibson.

The French driver set a blistering lap of 3m34.662s, finishing more than half a second clear of the rest of the field. Nineteen-year-old Ian Aguilera placed second for CLX Motorsport, while Bijoy Garg secured third for Inter Europol Competition.

PJ Hyett emerged as the fastest Pro-Am competitor in the No. 99 AO by TF Oreca, ending the session 11th overall in class and advancing comfortably to Hyperpole 1.

The No. 44 Proton Competition Oreca was the first LMP2 car eliminated and will start 16th in class. Michael Jensen, Fred Poordad and John Farano also failed to advance.

Corvette Leads the Way in LMGT3

The LMGT3 qualifying session produced another closely contested battle, with Peter Dempsey claiming top honors in the No. 34 Racing Team Turkey by TF Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

Dempsey finished 0.207 seconds ahead of Eric Powell in the No. 77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 EVO, while American driver Gray Newell secured third in the No. 23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo.

James Cottingham vaulted into fourth on his final lap in the No. 91 Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, while teammate Yasser Shahin held on to the final transfer position, ensuring the No. 92 Porsche advanced to Hyperpole 1.

Among the notable qualifiers were both Team WRT BMW M4 GT3 EVOs and Proton Competition’s second Mustang GT3.

The major casualties included both Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo entries. Drivers Antares Au and Alexander West failed to make the cut and will start 17th and 23rd in class respectively. Veteran endurance racer Ben Keating also suffered a surprise elimination.

The No. 33 TF Sport Corvette will start 18th in class, making it the second-highest-placed Corvette on the LMGT3 grid.

With qualifying complete, attention now turns to Hyperpole, where the fight for the front rows of the grid promises to be one of the most competitive in recent Le Mans history.

LE MANS, France – The No. 83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P has been knocked out of Hyperpole contention following a difficult qualifying session for Phil Hanson, while Alpine emerged fastest in a fiercely competitive Hypercar field ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
