Formula 1 has officially unveiled the 2027 World Championship calendar, confirming a season featuring 24 Grands Prix and a record 10 Sprint races. The campaign will begin in Bahrain on March 14 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 12.
The new calendar introduces several changes compared with the previous season. One of the main highlights is the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix, which will be held at Portimão from June 18 to 20. The Turkish Grand Prix will also return to the schedule, with the Istanbul event set to take place from October 1 to 3.
The return of the two events has led to changes elsewhere in the calendar. The Dutch Grand Prix will no longer feature in the 2027 schedule, while Barcelona will also be absent. The Spanish Grand Prix at the Catalan circuit will enter a rotation with Belgium, allowing the two events to alternate in future seasons.
Ten Sprint races in the 2027 calendar
The biggest change concerns the Sprint format. Formula 1 has scheduled 10 Sprint weekends, the highest number since the format was introduced.
For the first time, Monaco will host a Sprint race. The iconic street circuit will stage the short-format race during the June 4-6 weekend, adding another competitive element to the traditional event in the Principality.
The Sprint format will also make its debut in Abu Dhabi, which will host a Sprint during the final weekend of the season. Six Sprint races will take place during the first half of the championship, with a further four scheduled during the second half.
Monza to host a Sprint
Italy will once again play an important role in the championship. The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is scheduled for September 3-5 and will be one of the 10 weekends featuring a Sprint race.
The Italian round will therefore be one of the key events of the second half of the season, with the new-generation Formula 1 cars returning to the unique characteristics of the historic Monza circuit.
The complete 2027 Formula 1 calendar
The season will begin in Bahrain from March 12-14, followed by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah. April will feature races in Australia, Japan and China before Formula 1 heads to Miami.
The championship will then continue in Canada, Monaco and Portugal before entering the traditional European phase with races in Great Britain, Austria, Belgium and Hungary.
Following the summer break, Formula 1 will return to action at Monza before heading to Madrid, Baku, Istanbul and Singapore. The final part of the season will include Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
The 2027 Formula 1 World Championship will therefore feature 24 Grands Prix and 10 Sprint races, alongside several changes to the composition of the calendar. Portugal and Turkey will return, while Monaco and Abu Dhabi will join the list of venues hosting Sprint events.
Formula 1 is preparing for another demanding season, with a record number of Sprint races and a calendar that further expands the modern Grand Prix weekend format.
