F1, Antonelli Responds to Russell and Tops FP2 Ahead of the Ferraris

Kimi Antonelli set the fastest time in the second free practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring, beating Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton’s Ferraris. George Russell finished fourth, while Arvid Lindblad was involved in an accident.

After George Russell led a Mercedes 1-2 in the opening session, teammate Kimi Antonelli struck back during FP2 at the brand-new Madring circuit. The young Italian driver showcased impressive speed as the track surface continued to evolve, setting the benchmark time to end Friday at the top of the standings.

Ferrari maintained a strong presence near the front, with Charles Leclerc finishing second and Lewis Hamilton right behind in third place, demonstrating solid pace for the SF-26 on short runs. George Russell completed the top four in the second Mercedes, ahead of the rest of the field.

The session was interrupted by a red flag following a crash for Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad, who lost control of his car and made heavy contact with the barriers.

With track evolution playing a crucial role at the new Madrid street circuit, teams focused heavily on fine-tuning setups and analyzing soft tyre performance ahead of Saturday’s qualifying.
