MotoGP 2027: Rio de Janeiro to Host Season Launch

MotoGP will head to Brazil to officially launch the 2027 season. Rio de Janeiro has been selected to host the next Season Launch, with the event scheduled for February 21, 2027.

The presentation will take place at the spectacular Botafogo Beach, with the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain creating the backdrop for one of the most anticipated events on the MotoGP calendar.

The decision comes after the huge enthusiasm surrounding MotoGP’s return to Brazil in 2026. The Goiânia Grand Prix was sold out and attracted almost 150,000 spectators, highlighting the country’s passion for motorcycle racing and its importance as a key market for the championship.

The entire MotoGP paddock in Rio

The Season Launch will bring together all MotoGP teams, riders and manufacturers, giving fans the opportunity to see the new bikes and official liveries ahead of the 2027 campaign.

The event will go far beyond a traditional team presentation. Fans can expect live entertainment, music, interactive activities, manufacturer zones and opportunities to meet the stars of the championship.

MotoGP is aiming to turn the Season Launch into a major celebration of motorsport, combining the excitement of the world’s premier motorcycle racing championship with the unique atmosphere and culture of Rio de Janeiro.

A global showcase for Rio

Hosting the Season Launch will also provide a major opportunity for Rio de Janeiro to promote itself to an international audience. The 2026 edition in Kuala Lumpur generated more than $7 million in economic impact, underlining the growing importance of the event for its host cities.

Rio will now have the chance to showcase its world-famous landmarks, from Botafogo Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain to the Christ the Redeemer statue, to millions of MotoGP fans around the world.

MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta highlighted the growing importance of the Season Launch, describing it as one of the championship’s key moments of the year. Following the success of MotoGP’s return to Brazil in 2026, Rio represents the next step in taking the event to an even higher level.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere also welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the opportunity to showcase the city’s natural beauty, culture, sporting passion and hospitality to a global audience.

Countdown to 2027 begins

Following recent Season Launch events in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, MotoGP will now head to one of the world’s most iconic cities to officially begin its 2027 campaign.

On February 21, 2027, Botafogo Beach will become the center of the MotoGP world as riders, teams and fans come together ahead of the new season.

With racing, music, entertainment and one of Brazil’s most spectacular settings, Rio de Janeiro is preparing to give the 2027 MotoGP season a truly Brazilian opening.
